The Press Association is launching a new website to revolutionise parliamentary coverage.
Politics Today combines live and archived television news from the Houses of Parliament with up-to-the-minute political news from subsidiary PA Business.
Using subtitles and the latest speech-to-text technology, footage from the BBC Parliament channel is converted into searchable text with a direct link to a corresponding video clip.
Subscribers can search using keywords and phrases or download subtitles while viewing BBC Parliament in real time.
Results are returned with links to five-minute video clips, complete with audio and, where available, subtitles.
PA Business managing director Ian Campbell described the subscription-only website as a powerful real-time political monitoring tool that will prove hugely valuable to communication departments.
He said: "Customers will be able to see, hear and read what was said in Parliament within a couple of minutes of it actually happening. This is a major advance on what is currently available in the market.”
The main features of Politics Today include:
Access to live and archived footage from BBC Parliament;
Access to The Press Association's own political news feed;
Real-time, searchable subtitles linked to matching five-minute video
clips;
Searchable speech-to-text function when no subtitles are available;
Email alerts when a video clip or political story matches a
keyword or phrase;
Advanced searches, including synonym search;
Political news broken down into topics;
Links to Parliamentary and Government information websites.
