Jonathan Lee is to become the new editor of the Shetland Times.

Currently assistant editor at the Evening Express in Aberdeen, he will join Britain's most northerly weekly in February.

He told HoldtheFrontPage: "I'm very excited about becoming editor of the Shetland Times.

"It is a wonderful opportunity. The chance to become editor of a paper which has such a strong community voice doesn't come around very often.

"And I am really looking forward to working with all the Shetland Times staff to carry on its traditions."

Originally from Lancashire, Jonathan (pictured) began his career on the Westmorland Gazette in 1990.

The 38-year-old has also worked at the Edinburgh Evening News, and was assistant editor at The Gazette in Blackpool before moving to Aberdeen two-and-a-half years ago.

As well as his duties as assistant editor Jonathan, who is married with two children, also writes a humorous column about life as a dad, called Dad's The Word.

He said: "I've learnt a lot at Aberdeen and previously at Blackpool and am now looking forward to the chance to be editor on such a highly-regarded title."

Jonathan will succeed Vaila Wishart, who is retiring after 15 years as editor of the Shetland Times.
