Mail staff complete hall makeover

A village hall has undergone a Changing Rooms-style makeover thanks to staff at the Hull and East Riding Daily Mail.

Staff from across the company got involved as part of the Business in the Community initiative.

The volunteers who signed up included assistant publications editor Debbie Hall.

She said: "We had a few hiccups, like paint not arriving on time, but we overcame them. Everyone worked really hard."

The other helpers were Jane Revill, Neil Mace, Stephanie Rawson, Helen Larkin, Rachael Morgan and Lisa Newell.

They transformed the committee room at Elloughton-cum-Brough village hall from being a dark and dingy area into a more attractive meeting venue.

Hall secretary Hazel Lacey said: "We are really pleased with the work the team has done. It’s superb. They have all worked so hard."

As with the popular television programme, the team had just two days to complete its challenge – and also source the materials for nothing.
