Former Herald journalist has died, aged 70

Stewart Fraser, a former journalist with The Herald in Glasgow, has died aged 70.

He had followed his father into the business, Tom Fraser having worked at the Press and Journal in Aberdeen.

Stewart had reported on some of the region’s most momentous industrial events during his career.

His brief was shipbuilding and industry, and his time at the Herald included the launch of the QE2 in 1967 and the 1971 UCS work-in on the Clyde led by Jimmy Reid and Jimmy Airlie.

He left newspapers for a move into public relations, and became press officer for the Scottish Electricity Board, turning freelance after redundancy in 1986.
