Reporter's double life as a rugby team manager

Life as a reporter can be a bit of a scrum at times, but when Huddersfield Daily Examiner reporter Hazel Ettienne isn't writing stories in the newsroom, you can find her on the rugby pitch.

The mum of two is team manager for an under 11s amateur rugby league squad, and now spends her spare time organising fixtures and putting together the club newsletter.

After being appointed team manager to Underbank Rangers ARLFC in Holmfirth at the end of last season, Hazel (pictured) also raised £100 for the club with a 100-length sponsored swim.

She became involved after eldest son Morgan, (10), became interested in the game - following in the footsteps of his dad, who is a former amateur player.

Hazel said: "When John and I started going out 18 years ago, he played rugby league with amateur clubs, so I got used to spending the whole weekend travelling to and from games.

"When our elder son showed an interest and flair for the game we got him registered with a club straightaway and I became more and more involved with the club."

Youngest son Coby, (seven), is also now registered with the club and plays with the under 9s squad.

Morgan is his team's top try scorer, having scored seven in one match at the end of last season and Coby has also made a promising start this season already scoring a couple of tries in his first match.

Hazel has also completed First Aid for Rugby League and Child Protection courses to ensure her team's safety on and off the pitch.
