New editor-in-chief for Berkshire Regional Newspapers

Simon Jones has been named editor-in-chief of Berkshire Regional Newspapers, part of Trinity Mirror Southern.

He will edit the Reading Chronicle and its sister free title The Midweek, and will oversee the TMS portfolio across Berkshire, including the Bracknell News and the Slough and Windsor Express Series.

Simon, (right), is currently editor-in-chief of West London & Bucks, the Yellow Advertiser and North London & Herts Newspapers, where he edits the Enfield Gazette, Enfield Advertiser and The Press, Barnet.

The 34-year-old was previously deputy editor at Enfield, and has worked on the newsdesk of the Western Mail in Cardiff.

He also has extensive journalistic experience in New Zealand, where he reported for a national Sunday newspaper and was deputy editor of a current affairs magazine.

Simon's predecessor Anthony Longden leaves tomorrow, and Simon will take up his new role shortly afterwards.

Marc Reeves, editorial director of TMS, said: "Simon has a great track record of inspiring editorial teams to produce fantastic local newspapers.

"The Chronicle is a flagship title in a very competitive market, and it's a challenge Simon will relish.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Anthony for his considerable achievements at BRN and elsewhere in TMS. He goes with our best wishes."
