News in brief

Citizen journalism media agency Scoopt is drumming up some festive trade by appealing to the public to send in their celebrity snaps – and earn themselves some hard cash.
Founder Kyle MacRae said: "The opportunities for capturing a saleable snap in the run up to Christmas are endless. For example, what's Victoria buying David this year? Is Pete Doherty in a gutter near you? Are there any freak weather conditions on your high street? Have you spotted something dubious about Santa Claus? And where did the local MP really spend Christmas Eve?
"By signing up to Scoopt and getting a lucky shot, you can make money to cover the cost of Christmas."

Guardian Media Group's regional newspapers arm has undergone a senior management reshuffle.
Finance director David Sharrock becomes chief financial officer, Mark Rix – previously deputy managing director of the Manchester Evening News has been appointed MD of the newly-created MEN Media Sales. And Alistair Sheret, previously group finance and strategy director, becomes business affairs director for GMG Regional Newspapers, taking responsibility for the company's office move in 2006, the commissioning of a new press and the company's legal affairs.

The Express & Echo in Exeter is appealing for readers to become organ or blood donors, with a target of 1,000 new donors before Christmas.

The National Union of Journalists is claiming that reporters from the South Wales Evening Post were barred by security guards from covering the union's demo at their own newspaper.
The union held a protest at the move of the Swansea printing operation to Staverton.

A mouth-watering new weekly section, TASTE, is being launched tomorrow in the Newcastle Journal.
It will feature many new contributions to The Journal's already established wine and food pages. These will include interviews with the chefs who work behind the scenes in some of the region's top restaurants, features on local producers who bring the food and drink to our tables, succulent recipes, lunchtime specials, what's new in culinary gadgets and accessories and much, much more.
