Families targeted in Evening News entertainments revamp

The Cambridge Evening News has given its weekly entertainment pull-out a "root and branch redesign" in a bid to attract new readers.

The name of the Thursday supplement has been changed from Venue to Scene, and its content has been made more lively with new features such as a page dedicated to family days out and children's activities.

The listings section has been made more comprehensive to include more venues in the paper's circulation area, and the Scene theme runs throughout the pull-out to include Film Scene, Music Scene and Stage Scene.

The relaunch was led by deputy editor James Foster and features editor Paul Kirkley, and it is hoped the new pull-out will particularly appeal to families.

Evening News editor Murray Morse said: "This was always going to be one of our biggest projects of the year and the way James and Paul have responded is nothing short of magnificent.

"Paul joined just six months ago but he has brought so much to the paper. He has been a brilliant signing. Along with James he has been locked away for weeks on this and I delighted with how it has turned out.

"It contains more stories, factfiles and information yet they have managed to make it look even better than before."

The first supplement included an interview with comedian Lee Evans, a free cinema ticket offer, a restaurant review of Jamie Olivers' parents' pub and a chance to meet Brian McFadden.

It is the third major platform relaunch at the Cambridge Evening News in a matter of months, after both business and the sports sections were redesigned.
