New editor appointed at Belfast Telegraph

Martin Lindsay has been appointed editor of the Belfast Telegraph.

He joins the title after 12 years as editor and general manager of the Telegraph's sister paper, Sunday Life. Both are published by Independent News and Media.

During his time with Sunday Life Martin was named UK Regional Editor of the Year, and helped increase circulation to around 84,000.

He has previously held several roles at the Belfast Telegraph, including chief reporter and deputy news editor, and was deputy editor from 1991 until 1993.

He began his career in 1962 with Morton Newspapers.

Martin succeeds Edmund Curran, who had been editor since 1993. He is now editor-in-chief of INM's Northern Ireland newspaper titles, with overall editorial responsibility for the Telegraph, the Community Telegraph and Sunday Life.

  • The Belfast Telegraph has a circulation of 96,299 (ABC Mon to Fri, Jan to June 2005).
