David Cameron, shadow education secretary, met with representatives from the regional press this week at the House of Commons.

Archant Print has appointed an apprentice for the first time in 25 years.
Anthony Whales, (18), has started work as an electronic engineering apprentice at Thorpe near Norwich. In the next six month, Anthony will study at EAGIT and then join Archant Print four days a week with one day at Norwich City College on a day release course.
Archant produces four daily regional newspapers and more than 85 weekly titles with a combined circulation of three million copies every week.

The President of the National Union of Journalists is claiming journalists are being forced to put their names to racist stories under pressure from ruthless editors.
Tim Lezard told the Trade Union Congress that the time had come for editors to sign up to a ‘conscience clause’ that would safeguard the union’s members from disciplinary action or detriment to their career should they refuse to write material attacking refugees, asylum seekers, and other groups.

A former member of European Parliament has received an honorary Doctorate of Arts from the University of Lincoln.
Carole Tongue was honored for her contribution to culture, media and broadcasting. She was appointed as European Parliament link member to the UK government’s Department of Culture, Media and Sport in 1997, and between 1994 and 1999 she was the European Parliament’s spokesperson on public service broadcasting and author of the Parliament’s report on the future of public service broadcasting in the digital age.
