Home Secretary Charles Clarke is to address political journalists, editors and chief executives from the regional press.
He will attend the Newspaper Conference Annual Lunch in November to address the audience and face questions.
Zoe Hughes, deputy chair of the Newspaper Conference and political editor of the Journal, Newcastle said: "With home affairs so high up the national agenda, this will be an invaluable opportunity for regional journalists to question the Home Secretary on issues that affect communities across the UK.
"Regional newspapers tell the stories that are of direct relevance to local people, the same people who vote politicians into power.
"Our newspapers are the most trusted form of media and read by 40m adults. This makes them a force to be reckoned with in local politics, keeping people informed and representing their communities on issues that are directly relevant to daily life."
The Newspaper Conference comprises political and London editors and correspondents of regional newspapers in membership of the Newspaper Society.
It revolves around a series of lunch meetings organised by the Newspaper Society, at which members have the opportunity to put questions of regional interest to senior politicians.
The Annual Lunch is the main event of the year, and is open to all members of the Newspaper Society.
