Readers of the Birmingham Evening Mail and icbirmingham have voted to ban smoking in public places.
Seven out of ten voters in the poll were in favour of a blanket ban on smoking in pubs, restaurants and working men's clubs.
An option to allow people to smoke in places that do not sell food was supported by 33 per cent of readers.
The results have been passed on to health secretary Patricia Hewitt.


Glenrothes charity the Forth and Tay Disabled Ramblers, have been awarded £10,500 from Gannett, the charitable arm of Newsquest.
