Johnston rubber-stamps deal to buy 45 local papers

Johnston Press has completed a £155m deal to add 45 local weekly newspapers to its portfolio.

The Score Press papers were owned by Scottish Radio Holdings and came via EMAP as part of EMAP's deal to buy the rest of Scottish Radio Holdings.

Following the receipt of required regulatory clearances, all the necessary conditions have now been satisfied.

Score Press publishes 45 weekly newspapers, 16 of which are in Scotland, 24 in Northern Ireland and five in the Republic of Ireland. Key assets include Morton Newspapers in Northern Ireland, Kilkenny People Holdings, Leitrim Observer and Longford Leader in the Republic of Ireland and Angus County Press, Galloway Gazette and Stornoway Gazette in Scotland.
