A survey by the National Union of Journalists has revealed what it is labelling “appalling pay and working conditions” at The Press Association, where it claims scores of journalists are complaining of low pay, long hours and poor morale.
The survey, based on responses from almost a sixth of PA's national editorial workforce, showed that a third of employees earn less than £15,000 a year and nearly two-thirds work many hours of unpaid overtime. The company declined to comment on the survey.

Johnston Press plc has announced that it has acquired Best Asian Media Ltd. The business comprises the Asian Leader, a fortnightly free newspaper distributed in Greater Manchester and Lancashire, Asian Life magazine and Eid magazine. The business is based in Rochdale and becomes part of Johnston Press Ventures.

Dylan Iorwerth, editor of the Welsh language magazine Golwg, has won the prose medal at the Eisteddfod for a collection of pieces entitled ‘Darnau’.
Many of the pieces were inspired by his work as a journalist, comprising reports to bodies, minutes to a meeting and some people’s obsessions.
