The MP for Middlesbrough, South and East Cleveland, Dr Ashok Kumar, has raised in the Commons the issue of the OFT's review of newspaper and magazine distribution and its potential impact on regional and local newspapers.
He said the possible options proposed by the OFT could act as a way of killing off newspapers.
He told the Commons: "We should prevent that. Local papers and the ability to buy them are key requisites of a good, ordered and civilised society."
