The weekly Shetland Times became a daily newspaper for the first time, to provide extensive coverage of the NatWest Island Games 2005.
Hosting the games this year, Shetland attracted some 2,000 competitors and officials from 24 islands worldwide, competing in 15 different sports, including archery, athletics, swimming and volleyball.
Printing daily stories and pictures from the 15 different events, the small, family run newspaper, with only 40 employees, provided coverage over six days.
June Wishart, managing director of The Shetland Times Ltd, said: "We'd never done a daily before so that in itself has been quite an achievement for us.
"The NatWest Island Games are held every other year, so we decided to feature daily results and pictures from the various events, which have gone down very well. The feedback has been really positive.
"A huge effort goes into being a daily instead of weekly, but we managed to pull it off. It was quite an interesting experience."
Established in 1985 by the International Island Games Association, the Games provide an opportunity for athletes from island communities with a population less than 125,000 to compete at an international level.
