Retirements prompt group to merge newspaper divisions

Archant Regional is to merge its Anglia division with those in Norfolk and Hertfordshire.

The decision was prompted by the impending retirement of managing director Richard Nicholls and publishing director Gerry Eagling.

The move means the group's Cambridgeshire, Herts and Essex titles, which include The Crow in Royston, The Hunts Post and the Ely Standard, will join with Archant Herts, to form a new business called Archant Herts & Cambs under managing director Stuart McCreery.

The Advertiser titles based in Norwich, Gorleston and Lowestoft, will be merged with Archant Norfolk, under managing director Barry Dennis.

Archant Regional managing director Nigel Websper said: "A detailed review of our markets and company structure has taken place.

"With immediate effect the Archant Anglia business will be merged with the Norfolk, and Herts businesses.

"This reorganisation will enable readers and advertisers to be better served, as well as providing the opportunity for greater efficiencies.

"Richard and Gerry will remain with the business, until their retirement early next year, working closely with Barry Dennis and Stuart McCreery."
