The Packet newspaper series in Cornwall is going on the air later this month after teaming up with broadcasting students at a local college.
OFCOM, the government department that regulates broasting, has allocated a frequency to the Packet and University College Falmouth for a short-term radio station.
Packet FM will broadcast on 105 FM over a six to eight mile radius from Falmouth, going live at 8am on June 18.
Listeners will then be treated to music and local news and features provided by the Packet and presented by broadcasting students.
It will run 24-hours a day until July 2.
The initiative is part of the Packet's 150th anniversary celebrations, which also include a special commemorative supplement, and local companies who take out adverts in the supplement will also get a free commercial on Packet FM.
The Newsquest-owned Packet previously ran a radio station in 1998 during the Tall Ships Festival. Tall Ships FM was on air for 28 days and was also run with broadcast journalism students at what was then Falmouth College of Arts.
