Daily Post editors gather for paper's 'birthday party'

Past and present editors of the Daily Post have gathered to celebrate the newspaper's 150th birthday.

The title currently, and uniquely, has three editors, all of whom attended a dinner at its Old Hall Street offices in Liverpool, together with many of their predecessors.

Alastair Machray, who is the current editor of the North Wales Daily Post and soon-to-be editor of the Liverpool Echo, was present along with Liverpool Daily Post editor Jane Wolstenholme, who is on maternity leave, and acting Liverpool Post editor Rob Irvine.

Guests also included former editors Michael Unger, Jim Mansell, Bernard Shrimsley and John Griffith, who shared their memories of their time at the paper.

  • (L-R) Michael, John, Rob, Jane, Bernard, Alastair and Jim
  • The title was launched on June 11, 1855, and now has separately-managed editions in Liverpool and North Wales.

The dinner was one of a number of special events organised to mark the anniversary of the newspaper's launch, and was covered by a television crew for a planned two-part documentary programme on the history of the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo.

Co-produced by ITV Granada and Trinity Mirror, it is due to be shown in the north west in October.
