Former Observer staff sought to share anniversary celebrations

Former staff of the St Albans Observer are being sought to help the paper celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The Newsquest-owned title first hit the streets as a broadsheet free paper in June 1985, and current staff are now putting together a special supplement to mark the milestone.

As part of this they are looking for former members of staff to share their memories of the paper.

  • The first issue of the Observer
  • Deputy editor Julie Voyce said: "We're looking for any funny stories that people may have to help bring the supplement to life.

"For instance we've heard from someone who worked at the paper on its first day and remembers that the phones hadn't be connected - so the reporters had to go and use the phone box on the corner!"
