Evening Standard managing director Mike Anderson is launching 'Maggie's Metro Life Hike' to raise money to help build a much needed cancer care centre at London's Charing Cross hospital.

The event is a 15-mile nocturnal walk along the route of the Circle Line.

Mike is looking for London's media industries to join him in this challenge and put together teams to take part in the challenge.

He said: "I'm calling colleagues, friends, associates, in fact everyone working across our creative industries; advertising, public relations, media and marketing industries to get behind this challenge.

"We need 250 teams of four to sign up and want everyone registered and ready for the challenge by the end of July.

"The hike is only 15 miles long, it starts after work on Friday night and finishes in time for a celebratory breakfast on Saturday morning."

There are more than 150,000 people living with cancer across London.

A new Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre – the first outside Scotland - would provide emotional support to people affected by cancer across the Capital.

He added: "We want to raise £1m through this walk and other events for Maggie's to help them build their first London cancer care centre."

Joining Mike on the hike is Jamie Ritblat, chief executive and chairman of Delancey's, who with Land Securities are sponsoring the Metro Life Hike to ensure every penny raised will go towards building a Maggie's London Centre.

If enough funds can be raised from the hike, building work will start at the Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith by the end of the year.
