The Manchester Evening News has helped police track down some of the city's worst court dodgers after printing a '20 most wanted' gallery on its front page.
The rogues' gallery includes photographs of suspected race attackers, burglars, carjackers and thieves who had all failed to turn up for court after being arrested and charged by police.
And Greater Manchester police have now said that more than a third of the people pictured in the MEN have now been found, after either surrendering themselves or being arrested after tip-offs from readers.
MEN editor Paul Horrocks said: "We had a conversation with the police about the number of people who have absconded from court or broken their bail conditions.
"The police came to us and asked if we would be prepared to publish a list of faces and names of people they were trying to find but had been unsuccessful in doing so.
"We looked at it and said yes, there was a public interest motive for doing it, and there was also a proper policing purpose behind it."
All the court dodgers will now face an extra penalty on top of any the court imposes if they are found guilty of a crime.
