Former Express journalist loses cancer battle

Tributes have been paid to a former Paisley Daily Express reporter who has lost his brave battle with cancer.

Cameron Adams, who went on to set up his own highly-successful PR business, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness.

The 53-year-old cut his journalistic teeth at the Paisley Daily Express during the 1970s, and became well-known in media circles as a news reporter and motoring correspondent.

Former editor Jim Neil said: "Cameron was a vibrant, enthusiastic and professional young man. He was a highly-regarded member of the journalistic profession who was popular among everyone who knew him.

"It is a terrible loss and he will be sadly missed."

In recent years Cameron had become the public voice of a massive campaign to upgrade Erskine Hospital for war heroes, co-ordinating a string of Royal visits there.

Erskine chief executive Colonel Martin Gibson said: "Cameron really believed in Erskine and did so much for the residents, the staff and the cause itself.

"He joined us in 1996 as a PR and media consultant to launch the highly-successful Erskine 2000 appeal which enabled us to build three new homes. He really did become the voice of Erskine."
