Liverpool Echo deputy editor Jon Brown has been confirmed as the paper's acting editor, following the departure of Mark Dickinson.

Jon, whose role as deputy editor has expanded substantially over the past year, took full editorial responsibility for the Echo this week and will continue until a permanent successor is appointed.

He had been due to take on the role of acting editor at the Echo's sister title, the Daily Post, standing in for Jane Wolstenholme - his wife - while she is on maternity leave.

Instead, Echo assistant editor Rob Irvine will now become acting editor of the Daily Post from March 21.

In addition to this, Daily Post assistant editor Mark Thomas will play a key role in overseeing an important set of initiatives designed to maintain the title's recent circulation success.

Andy Campbell, assistant editor of the Daily Post Wales, is to join the Echo as assistant editor, as cover for Rob Irvine.
