The Islington Gazette has produced a special issue to reflect a rise in anti-social behaviour on local housing estates.

Responding to reader concerns, the London newspaper devoted the first 11 pages of the issue to the vandalism, theft and intimidation affecting readers and to what is being done to tackle the problems.

Under the banner "Yobs Rule... OK?", a hard-hitting editorial spelt out how youth disorder in the inner London borough had "spiralled out of control".

Tony Allcock, editor of the Archant London title, said: "We have produced this special issue in response to our readers’ concerns.

"Complaints of anti-social behaviour make up a large percentage of the calls we receive each week.

"And when those on the frontline - the police officers, the youth workers and above all residents - tell us teenage anti-social behaviour has never been this bad, we have to listen.

"Much of what we have uncovered makes uncomfortable reading. But ignoring the problem will not solve it."

This is the second time the Islington Gazette has produced a special issue focusing on a particular subject.

Its investigation into the local sex trade won a Newspaper Society nomination for one of the best front pages of the year.

Its sister paper, the Hornsey Journal, also produced a special issue on gun crime which was well received by police, politicians and the local community.
