Former newspaper editor and parliamentary reporter Andrew Buchan has died after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 72.

During a journalism career spanning more than four decades, Andrew became a well known face in the corridors of Westminster and Number 10 Downing Street, working as a parliamentary lobby correspondent for the Northcliffe Newspapers Group.

He began his career as a district reporter at the Press and Journal in his home town of Peterhead.

After three years he left the north-east to pursue his career with various other newspapers south of the border, including the Western Times and Gazette in Devon, where he became editor.

Later he moved to London where he took up his parliamentary role with Northcliffe, and remained there for several years until he was forced to retire due to ill health in the late 1980s.

He and his wife of 31 years, Trish, moved to west Wales and settled there soon after.

Andrew died in Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth. He is survived by his wife, four children, seven grandchildren, and his sister Elizabeth.
