Sunday Herald deputy editor David Dick is leaving the paper to start a new life in Australia, working for his former boss, Andrew Jaspan.

David, (34), has accepted a job as executive editor at the Melbourne Age after being approached by Andrew, who left the Sunday Herald last year to become editor-in-chief at the Age.

David (right) flew out to meet the paper's senior team earlier this month and is expected to take up his new role in June.

He said: "It's a wonderful opportunity. Andrew showed me the city and it's a big paper which could be fantastic."

David was a member of the original team to launch the Sunday Herald in 1999 and worked with Andrew for six years.

Before being appointed deputy editor last year he had been the paper's sports editor, and had also previously been deputy sports editor and sport production editor.

He also worked at the Evening Times in Glasgow for three years.

David said: "I've had a fantastic time at the Sunday Herald and I think it is the best newspaper in Scotland.

"But I've been given this massive opportunity for a different way of life and it's too good to turn down.

"If I didn't go it could haunt me for the rest of my life, wondering what might have been. But I wouldn't rule out a return to Scotland in the future."
