Poor weather conditions yesterday hampered the search for Essex County Newspapers journalist Gavin Nightingale.

He was reported overdue from a walk on Ben Nevis on Saturday.

Searches for the 39-year-old, (left), who works for the Colchester Evening Gazette's sister weeklies, were postponed due to poor weather conditions, snowfall and the high risk of avalanche following heavy snow at the weekend.

The search had been expected to resume yesterday, but a Northern Constabulary spokeswoman confirmed that the weather was still too bad.

Police are urging anyone who was in the area of Ben Nevis or around the Fort William area to contact them if they have any information or if they may have seen the sub-editor.
