Pancake racers batter the opposition

Newspaper staff battered the opposition as they took to the streets around Norfolk to do battle in their annual Shrove Tuesday pancake races.

Publishing group Archant puts a number of teams up around its east coast patch every year.

A team from the Lowestoft Journal snatched the Media Cup on home ground, beating arch radio rivals 103.4 The Beach.

  • Journal team: Mark Boggis, Ben Kendall, David Pink and Peter Aldous
  • The Eastern Daily Press won through as champions in a six-way race at Dereham, with editorial duo Ian Clarke and Ed Nash flipping their way to the finish line ahead of the pack. The paper’s other team, of reporters James Goffin and Nick Parker, were beaten in the semi-final.

And in Norwich, the Evening News team of Sophie Harrison, Olli Franzen, David Heldson and James Paton were unceremoniously dumped from the contest in the first round, losing to a strong Radio Norfolk team.
