Jersey's only weekly newspaper has ceased publication.

The free Jersey Metro had been produced by the Guiton Group, which also publishes the Jersey Evening Post, but had not attracted enough interest from advertisers.

JEP managing director Jerry Ramsden said: "The decision to close it allows resources to be concentrated on our main title, into which some elements of Metro will be incorporated.

"While Metro achieved popularity with readers, advertisers were less responsive. Many felt that all their needs were met by the JEP's remarkably high readership level, with seven out of 10 adults in Jersey reading it every day."

Launched in September 2003, the 32-page half colour tabloid was available every Thursday.

More than 22,000 copies were distributed each week, with 13,000 of those delivered directly to homes and businesses in St Helier.

It was also available on every Connex bus and at the town's main car parks, together with various shops and newsagents.
