Lifelong 'Town' fan to pull on his boots for sports hall

Grimsby Telegraph news editor David Laister is to pay the penalty to raise cash for a worthy cause.

The lifelong Grimsby Town fan will step out on to the hallowed turf of Blundell Park at half-time on Saturday to take part in a penalty shoot-out to raise money for the Luke Walmsley Sports Foundation.

The family of the murdered schoolboy want to build and open a £500,000 sports hall in their son's memory.

His shocking death at the hands of a fellow pupil rocked the nation, and was reported by the Grimsby Telegraph, which has maintained an excellent relationship with the Walmsleys.

If Saturday's event is a success, the £100,000 mark will be passed.

Also taking to the field will be three Telegraph readers, who have all bid to take part, raising hundreds of pounds before a ball is kicked.

Information on how to make donations or sponsor David's penalty kicks, get in touch with him by e-mail at: dave.laister@grimsbytelegraph.co.uk.
