The East Riding Gazette has ceased publication after just two years.

Its affairs are now being dealt with by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Editor Charles Graves declined to comment on why the paper was no longer being published, but said he left the company before the paper closed.

The paper was launched in January 2003 by former Hull Daily Mail man Neil Speight.

It was a free broadsheet, produced by Holderness Newspapers, and was distributed around the East Riding and west Hull, with paid-for copies available elsewhere. No one at Holderness Newspapers was prepared to comment.

The idea was to fill a gap in the market which had been identified by the owners.

Staff are understood to have been given their P45s last week.
