Retirements spark new appointment at Midlands titles

Andrew Punshon has been appointed group series editor of Coventry Newspapers.

Previously deputy editor of the Hinckley Times, he is now responsible for the Hinckley Times and Bedworth Echo, both paid-for titles, and the free Hinckley Herald and Journal, Coventry Citizen and Nuneaton Weekly Tribune.

His appointment follows the retirement of Paul Webb, who previously edited the Hinckley Times, and Mort Birch, who edited the Bedworth Echo.

Andrew, (43), began his journalism career at the Holme Valley Express in Yorkshire, before moving to the Midlands as a reporter with the Evening Tribune, Nuneaton.

Since then he has worked for the Nuneaton Evening Telegraph and, more recently, on the newsdesk at the Coventry Evening Telegraph.

He joined The Hinckley Times as deputy editor in August 2002.

Andrew said: "I am delighted to take over.

"It will be a challenge but I have the benefit of a tremendous team and look forward with them to continuing what my predecessors have achieved."
