A webcam run by The News in Portsmouth, which offers views of the city's bustling harbour, has been named the best in the UK and Ireland.
The paper's Harbour Eye webcam, on its website www.portsmouthtoday.co.uk, has been named as the UK's number one by enthusiasts at www.ukwebcameras.co.uk, which offers a guide to more than 450 webcams across Britain.
Harbour Eye offers Internet users from across the world the chance to see the spectacular views of Portsmouth Harbour, and is devoted exclusively to the maritime comings and goings.
Viewers can witness warships and other naval vessels arrive and depart; see the huge continental ferries ply their trade on voyages to France and Spain; and marvel at the multitude of smaller craft all captured on camera.
A second camera was also added by The News earlier this year to allow online readers to see the Spinnaker Tower, which is still under construction, 24 hours a day.
Advertisement director Peter Timperley said: "We are delighted the with webcam's success.
"We have even had ex-Pompey folk from abroad telling us they sit in front of it with a cool drink watching the ships go by like they used to do in the harbourside pubs when they lived here.
"It attracts plenty of local traffic too especially when one of the big Royal Navy ships comes home."
