Website poem helps deliver anti-bullying message

A poem from the charity website Bullying Online, set up by Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Liz Carnell, has been chosen to launch the DfES's first Anti-Bullying Week.

The poem 'I am' is to be featured on TV, in the cinema, on websites and as part of a Radio 1 campaign, during the awareness week which runs until November 26.

Celebrities including Olympic gold medallist Kelly Holmes, pop pundit Sharon Osbourne and football ace Rio Ferdinand are reading the poem along with stars from various pop bands, which will enable Bullying Online to help more victims of bullying who will identify with the poem's powerful message.

Liz said: "This is just one week out of 52 and for Bullying Online the work goes on 365 days a year.

"We've been staggered by the number of visitors to our website in the last couple of days, we had 3,608 on Monday, compared with our usual figure of around 800 a day."

Liz founded the charity Bullying Online with her son John in 1999, and since then it has picked up a clutch of awards.

During the past five years the website has had more than 500,000 visitors and last year Liz replied to 8,100 e-mails.
