Paper steps up its campaign for justice

The News has stepped up its Last Chance For Justice campaign by taking its fight online.

The newspaper has bought the website address www.arcticmedal.co.uk, which directs visitors to a dedicated section on the paper's main website where readers can view the latest information on the fight for the creation of a specific campaign medal for veterans of the Arctic Convoys in World War II.

The site, which was designed by News website sub-editor Jim Forrest, is also being used to collect more names for the paper's petition - in addition to the 44,000 signatures which The News handed in at Downing Street in May.

Deputy editor Mark Acheson said: "The website is another extension of the campaign. It gives a permanent place for people to drop in and read about it.

"Although it is dear to the hearts of our readers we have got to muster support from the rest of the country.

"We have had pictures of people signing the petition in John O'Groats and Lands End and the website allows people all over Britain, and indeed all over the world, to show their support.

"Names for the petition are still coming in online and on paper and we will be sending another batch to the Prime Minister."
