Crisis-hit club backed by Echo website

The Northern Echo's website is helping support the newspaper's efforts to assist crisis-hit football team Darlington FC.

The team was placed in administration before Christmas and could fold in coming weeks if fans and the local business community do not come to the aid of the cash-strapped club.

The paper has given extensive coverage to the unfolding drama, and was urging fans to turn out in their thousands to two all-star games on Sunday between celebrity sides.

Fans must also attend the next home league game on January 31 against Rochdale. A fans' Trust is aiming to raise £250,000 before the end of March to help the club.

A special Quakers in Crisis section has been set up on The Northern Echo's website, www.thisisthenortheast.co.uk, and it has generated more than 6,500 page impressions in the last few weeks.

Thisisthenortheast.co.uk is now covering local rugby including the Newcastle Falcons, Darlington MP, Darlington RFC with away game coverage sourced from reporters and the clubs.
