Evening Star in morning edition 'first'

The Ipswich Evening Star turned into a morning newspaper called the Christmas Star, for one day only on Christmas Eve.

For the first time in its 120-year history, the evening title produced an overnight edition very early on December 24 to catch last minute shoppers who would otherwise miss the paper with all the shops shutting up from lunchtime.

Editor Nigel Pickover said: "Everything shuts up early on Christmas Eve so we wanted to do something to protect our sales.

"It is a great innovation and we are hoping for a decent sales uplift to give us a good end to the year."

A fleet of distribution vans delivered the papers to newsagents along with sister title the East Anglian Daily Times and other national morning papers at around 6am.
