More regional press honours

The Queen awarded a CBE for Professor Robert Pinker, a former Press Complaints Commission member, for his public service.

Described as a “true friend of self-regulation” by colleagues, Professor Pinker joined the PCC when it was set up in 1991.

He was acting chairman between January 2002 and March 2003, following the departure of Lord Wakeham, and retired in July this year.

He retains a consultancy role at the PCC.

  • Eddy Gillanders. a freelance and contributor to the Buchan Observer, was appointed MBE for services to agriculture and to agricultural journalism.

  • John Devine, formerly of the Irish Independent, has been awarded the OBE for services to Journalism.
