Peter Hain, Leader of the House of Commons and MP for Neath, was the guest speaker at a Newspaper Conference lunch on Tuesday. He answered questions on a range of topics including the Deepcut review, hunting and the general election.
The lunch was attended by political journalists from the regional press and took place at Shepherds restaurant in Westminster. The Newspaper Conference comprises London editors and political correspondents of newspapers in membership of the Newspaper Society.
A former Post & Mail production manager, who joined the Birmingham publishers aged 14, has died aged 75.
Tom Jones was head of production, helping to introduce litho presses to the firm's Colmore Rowe premises. He retired, after more than 45 years at the Post & Mail, in 1991.
