An evening of music has been held in memory of former Grimsby Telegraph editor Jack Whitfield, who was at the helm of the paper between 1966 and 1973.
He died in October, aged 88.
Away from work he had founded the Grimsby Guitars, which has been renamed The Whitfield Ensemble in his honour, and performed in St Peter's Church, Humberston, in tribute, with proceeds going to Grimsby's St Andrew's Hospice and St Peter's Church.
Sainsbury's general merchandise buyer, Charlotte Allbery, has met the Newspaper Society's newspaper sales action team to discuss ways of increasing the sale of regional newspapers across Sainsbury's stores.
The NSAT, a forum for circulation experts from the regional press, meets four times a year and reports to the Society's marketing committee. It has been in discussion with a number of the major supermarkets, including Tesco and Asda, to help them achieve their increased targets for regional newspaper sales.
National Eisteddfod bosses have thanked the Daily Post for its successful campaign to save the famous cultural event.
The organisation's debts of £300,000 were paid off with £140,000 of donations and a £160,000 National Assembly grant after the Daily Post's Save our Eisteddfod campaign.
Regional press publishers and retailers are being urged to join forces with wholesalers, national press and magazine publishers, in a fight to preserve the system of exclusive distribution agreements which govern the supply of newspapers and magazines by wholesalers to retailers.
Earlier this year, the Government confirmed its intention to remove the UK vertical agreements exclusion order, from May, with a view to bringing the UK competition regime in line with EC law. It is feared this legal uncertainty poses a threat to the supply chain, potentially putting up to 20,000 smaller retailers at risk, particularly in more remote rural areas.
