Mail staff from across the decades are reunited

More than 100 former Hull Daily Mail staff - many of whom hadn't seen each other for more than 20 years - have been reunited this week at the first event of its kind.

Former news reporters, feature writers, advertising and accounts staff, as well as staff from the comp room and the machine room, all gathered for a reunion organised by former employees Mike and Ann Ulyatt.

Former Mail business advertising manager Mike and former features adviser Ann, who first met at the paper in 1962, spent months trying to track down former friends and colleagues for the get-together.

And as guests - ranging from the age of 24 to 86 - tucked in to a three-course meal, they began reminiscing about their time at the paper, before being entertained with speeches by Mike and former reporter David Howes.

Guests were also treated to a trip down memory lane with a photographic display which featured more than 100 pictures from the past 50 years.

Mike said: "It went very well. It was nice to talk to people from different eras and I think we had people there who had worked at the Mail from every decade after the war.

"Everyone agreed that we had something in common and that it was more than just a job, it was more like a family."
