East Wales Weeklies appoint new boss

South Wales Argus deputy editor Kevin Ward is leaving the paper after more than 15 years.

But he isn't going very far. His new office is about ten yards away from his current place of work.

Kevin, (38), has been appointed publisher of Newsquest Wales and Gloucestershire's East Wales Weeklies, succeeding Peter John, who moves to West Wales following the retirement of David Evans.

Kevin, (right), joined the Argus in 1989 as a sub-editor after working on weekly newspapers in his native Worcestershire. In his time on the Newport evening he has been edition manager, chief sub-editor, assistant editor and, for the last six years, deputy editor.

His replacement in the deputy editor's chair is current Argus assistant editor Nicole Garnon, (41).

Nicole started her career at the Gateshead-based weekly free newspaper the South Tyneside Post before moving on to the Gateshead Post.

She joined the Argus as a district reporter before a short stint on the Western Mail in a similar role. Nicole rejoined the Argus as health reporter in 1989 and was chief reporter, deputy news editor and news editor before being appointed assistant editor and reader relations manager in 2001.
