A motoring writer has launched himself into a different mode of transport, by wing-walking on a bi-plane for charity.

John Swift, who reports for the Stoke Sentinel, was promoting a series of events for Douggie Mac Daredevils - stunts with an element of danger or endurance raising money for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice at Home Appeal.

John's event involved him being strapped to the top wing of a display plane and undergoing a series of aerobatic moves in a 10-minute flight.

He said: "I'm approaching companies and individuals for money so we can help the Douggie Mac reach its target of £450,000 to finance the next three years of its nursing at home scheme. They're nearly there and just need a little extra push to achieve it.''

Fund-raisers at the Blurton hospice are now in sight of the £450,000 needed to finance the next three years of the Hospice at Home scheme, which cares for terminally-ill people during their final days in the comfort and familiarity of their own home rather than a hospital.
