Conference will combat industry criticisms

The public perception of journalists and the media is to be examined at a free event orgainsed by the National Union of Journalists and media ethics group MediaWise.

The NUJ Ethics Council Conference Journalism and Public Trust will look at what critcisms the industry faces and what can be done to combat these.

It will also ask who sets the standards and what forms of regulation could help to strengthen trust in journalism, as well as looking at ways of encouraging journalists to be ethical.

Speakers at the event will include NUJ general secretary Jeremy Dear and president Jim Corrigall, PCC chairman Sir Christopher Meyer and Sandra Nyaira from the Exiled Journalists Network.

The event will be held at The Portland Room, University of Westminster, on December 4, and is open to journalists and members of the public.
