Jamie proves he's a Star reporter in 10km race

A Merseymart and Star reporter has completed a 10km run around the streets of Liverpool to raise money for charity.

Journalist Jamie McLoughlin took part in the L1310K event on Sunday, raising approximately £200 in sponsorship.

The money raised will be split between the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology and the Sunrise Fund - the charity of the Merseymart and Star's sister paper the Liverpool Echo.

Jamie, (28), said: "I chose the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology because my Dad had skin cancer and he was treated there.

"The Echo's Sunrise Fund is split between the Marina Dalglish Appeal for Breast Cancer and other local charities."

Jamie had been in training since June when he heard about the event, and for the six weeks before the run he joined a gym.

He said: "My time was one hour and 17 minutes - I was aiming for one hour, but I'm happy with the time I got.

"The contestants quickly split into two groups, the really serious runners and the rest. The winner finished in 30 minutes.

"There was a great atmosphere on the day, thousands of people were there. The crowds lined the route and they were all clapping and cheering the contestants on to the finish."

Jamie is still receiving donations after the race.
