New Yorkshire Post editor is named

Peter Charlton is to become the new editor of the Yorkshire Post.

Currently editor of the Sheffield Star, which along with the Yorkshire Post is owned by Johnston Press, he will also become director of Yorkshire Post Newspapers Limited.

His appointment was announced by divisional managing director Chris Green.

It follows the resignation of Rachael Campey two weeks ago, after just 18 months at the paper.

She had earlier been the subject of a "no confidence" vote by members of the National Union of Journalists at the paper, and her sudden departure was welcomed by them as "closing an unfortunate chapter" in the paper's history.

Johnston Press said details of the Sheffield vacancy would be advertised "in due course".
