New data from the Advertising Association for the second quarter of 2004 shows that the regional press industry increased its advertising revenue by 6.3 per cent to £803m.
Overall advertising expenditure, excluding direct mail and the internet increased by 6.6 per cent year on year to £3,259.8m.
Classified advertising expenditure in regional newspapers increased by 6.9 per cent, with the most significant increase in the recruitment sector which showed an 11.1 per cent increase year-on-year.
Display advertising in the regional press increased by 4.9 per cent year on year, with national display advertising increasing by 12.7 per cent and local display advertising by 1.7 per cent.
