New editor for Yorkshire title

Chris Buxton has been appointed as the new editor of the Gazette & Herald in Yorkshire.

Currently assistant editor at the Evening Press in York, Chris will take over from Bob McMillan who will retire from the Gazette & Herald later this year.

Chris (pictured) has worked at the Evening Press since 1988, when he joined the paper as a news sub-editor.

In recent years he has been a key player in a number of projects including the paper's conversion to a new compact format, the growth of niche publications and the development of www.thisisyork.co.uk.

Liz Page, managing director of Newsquest (York) which publishes the Gazette & Herald, said: "The G&H already enjoys an excellent circulation performance and Chris will focus on further opportunities for growth.

"The good team spirit on the paper will provide a springboard from which to take the paper forward.

"I wish him every success."

  • The G&H is Ryedale's biggest-selling weekly newspaper with an ABC figure of 12,864 (Jan to June 2004), a rise of 7.7 per cent on the same period in 2003.
