News firm in charity boost for sports trust

The owners of the Haringey Independent have donated £4,500 to help local disabled children get involved in sport.

The money was given by the Gannett Foundation - the charitable arm of the paper's parent company Gannett - to the Haringey Sports Development Trust which is based in Wood Green.

The Trust applied for the grant to help set up a 12-week athletics project.

Independent editor Kate Russell presented the cheque to the Trust.

She said: "We had dozens of entries for the award scheme but this group stood out as being the most deserving.

"We wish them the best of luck in their endeavours and we hope our award goes some way to helping them achieve their goals."
